FAQ
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ):
Q: Are there car pools to observation sessions?
A: I often offer a car pool to observation sessions when there’s interest expressed. Just write to info@icastronomy.org and I’ll arrange it with you.
Q: What do I have to bring to an observation session? Can kids come?
A: You don’t have to bring anything but your curiosity, and kids are welcome. The president of the club always at least brings a very large Dobsonian to the viewings.
Q: I’m interested in astronomy — what’s a good scope for me to buy?
A: I’d strongly recommend coming to one of our (7PM, 2nd Monday of each month) meetings at the Iowa City Public Library. There, we can go into detail about what might be the best way to start into astronomy.
Q: Does the ICAC have its own telescope?
A: Thanks to a generous donation, our club has a telescope for use by club members: a Meade LX10 8″ Schmidt-Cassegrain on a fork equatorial mounting (non-computerized. Seems hard to believe that they actually used to make them that way!) If anyone would like to see this telescope, come to an observing session. If a club member would like to use this telescope, call club president Dan Bastemeyer.
